Favourite Modules

A few recently graduating students have put together a list of their favourite modules in their chosen subjects. Please read their thoughts below.

My favourite module on Cert HE English Studies was Dramatisations and Adaptations. The class came alive as we learnt to see and hear in ways we had not before.
Karen Freeman – CertHE English Studies

My favourite module during my year at Ruskin has been the English Legal System. It has provided me with a perfect foundation for future interest within law and ultimately has catapulted an already creative and inquisitorial mind into the realms of the ever changing and developing profession of law in the twenty-first-century.
Joel Hare – CertHE Law

My favourite module whilst studying at Ruskin took me by surprise! I read the hand book for the BA Hons Degree in Social Work, spied a lurking subject called ‘Social Policy’ that almost caused me to quit! Social Policy sounded dry and uninspiring I dreaded it. To my delight it was one of the subjects that I started to enjoy and take on board. Our tutor (Des) made the subject come alive and made me evaluate how real and important social policy was in social work and how it would impact on everything I would do when I (hopefully) qualify.
Dawn Harrower – BA Social Work

My favourite module was Concepts essay on a painting that knew well. I chose one that is a print that is on my living room wall. It depicts straw palters in Bedfordshire. It had historical significance so it fitted into a history essay .Though I have lived with it for a long time ,the research made me look at it in anew, composition, what was and what was not in the painting was all new to me. Who was the painting aimed at? Not just a pretty picture. I look at differently now.
Carole Owens – CertHE History

My favourite module would have to be "Applied Labour relations" as it was a highly practical module in which we not only learned how to analyse company accounts but also took part in a collective bargaining role play with the students acting as the union side against tutors acting as management. A great way of preparing budding trade unionists in the art of negotiation.
Rupert Griffin BA ILTUS

My favourite module was Introduction to Sociology. I have studied Science in high school therefore I did not know much (anything) about Sociology. What feminists, Marxist or functionalist would say for housework? It was a great exercise and also one of the slides about the differences between sociology, chemistry and other disciplines. I will never forget that. Every module that I have studied was interesting and encouraging.
