BOOK LAUNCH AND COMMEMORATION OF THE END OF THE MINERS' STRIKE - 25 YEARS ON

David Douglas and Anne - Marie Sweeney will be at Ruskin to discuss their new book and films.

Ghost Dancers, the final book in David Douglass's trilogy, will be launched to coincide with 25th anniversary of the miners' strike. A first person 'hands on' view of this last generation of the miners and their union, the book explodes the prevailing myths around the strike. It also uniquely covers the post strike period. Inspired by the last stand of the native Americans, Ghost Dancers records the last stand of the last generation of pitmen and their communities. David Douglass, a coalminer for 40 years, in the Durham and Doncaster coalfields, was a NUM official member of the NUM - and an ex - Ruskin student will read from his book. Oxford film-maker, Anne - Marie Sweeney, will show her film 'Rebel Divas' made for the National Women Against Pit Closures.
