Wolfgang trained as a political sociologist at the University of Hamburg and in the Postgraduate School of Peace Studies at Bradford University. Before arriving at Ruskin in September 2005, Wolfgang was a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader in Politics at University College Northampton and a visiting Lecturer in European Thought and Society at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London.

His main research interests lie in identity politics, political socialisation and mobilization, and here in particular the far Right in contemporary Europe. Wolfgang has written and co-authored a number of book chapters and articles in this field and is co-editor (with Paul Hodkinson, Surrey) of the forthcoming ‘Youth Cultures: Scenes, Sub-Cultures and Tribes’ (Routledge, March 2007).

He is currently completing a PhD on ‘The Modernisation of a Right-Wing Party: Change and Continuity in the Austrian Freedom Party in Vienna, 1956-2002’ in the Department of Politics, International Relations and European Studies at Loughborough University.

Wolfgang�s main teaching responsibilities at Ruskin lie in the delivery of the Politics modules on this programme (Level 1: ‘Introduction to Politics’; Level 2: ‘Europe in a Changing World’, Level 3: ‘Contemporary Political Theory: States, Nations and Citizenship in A Global Age’) and contributions to the interdisciplinary modules at Level 1 (‘Food for Thought’, ‘Nuts and Bolts’) and Level 3 (‘Development Studies’).

He also teaches study skills at Level 1 and runs the student led seminar strand at this level. Outside of the BA programme, he contributes to the MA in Public History and the College's Short Courses Programme.
