I've been at Ruskin for the last 12 years developing and teaching law as a single subject on college long courses and TU short courses and to students on vocational courses (SW and Youth and Community Work). I have developed the law curriculum reflecting my interest in a radical rights based approach to understanding and demystifying the complexities of social welfare law both in its social context and in its practical application.
My overiding aim as a law tutor is to inspire an interest in law and empower students through their acquisition of legal knowledge. Prior to Ruskin in over 17 years as a former legal caseworker, welfare rights and community worker, social worker, and solicitor I developed interest in those areas of law as they impact in particular upon disadvantaged, diverse and excluded community groups and individuals. I have a particular interest in medical ethics and mental health, family and young people, anti-discrimination, public administrative and human rights law.
