Bal was a senior helper, volunteer, and part-time youth worker at youth clubs, Boy’s Clubs, Intermediate Treatment centres and the Racial Equality Council before qualifying at Westhill, he has been a youth and community worker, drugs education worker, training officer, Youth Inclusion Project Manager and the Operations Manager for 30 years working in Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Lancashire, Warwickshire and Yorkshire.

Bal has also worked as a consultant trainer for 25 years for various local, regional and national agencies including Manchester University, specialising in youth and community work and anti-oppressive training. He joined Ruskin as the coordinator of the youth and community programme in January 2007.

Bal is also a trustee of OCVYS (Oxfordshire Children and Voluntary Youth Services).
