Personal Tutor

As part of its Learning Services, the College has a personal tutor system. Each personal tutor is a member of the academic staff of the College and is responsible for a number of students both individually and as a group.

The overall aim of the personal tutor system is to enable students to fulfil the requirements of their course and to facilitate their learning individually and collectively.

The personal tutor

  • Helps students through the College system
  • Provides academic and study advice and oversight to students throughout their course
  • Is the key contact at induction and throughout the duration of the course
  • Receives application information about special learning needs, acts as an intermediary on behalf of the students with other staff and monitors appropriate action
  • Writes or co-ordinates references for students after the first term and after leaving
  • Receives all reports on students including doctor’s notes and diagnostic reports
  • Reports student problems to the Academic Board
  • Records personal tutor meetings (signed by student and adviser)
  • Ensures student is meeting course requirements
  • Knows what resources are available and refers to appropriate service
  • Is provided with a personal tutor pack to support their work.
