Personal Tutor
As part of its Learning Services, the College has a personal tutor system. Each personal tutor is a member of the academic staff of the College and is responsible for a number of students both individually and as a group.
The overall aim of the personal tutor system is to enable students to fulfil the requirements of their course and to facilitate their learning individually and collectively.
The personal tutor
- Helps students through the College system
- Provides academic and study advice and oversight to students throughout their course
- Is the key contact at induction and throughout the duration of the course
- Receives application information about special learning needs, acts as an intermediary on behalf of the students with other staff and monitors appropriate action
- Writes or co-ordinates references for students after the first term and after leaving
- Receives all reports on students including doctor’s notes and diagnostic reports
- Reports student problems to the Academic Board
- Records personal tutor meetings (signed by student and adviser)
- Ensures student is meeting course requirements
- Knows what resources are available and refers to appropriate service
- Is provided with a personal tutor pack to support their work.
