IT Short Course – Spreadsheets Level 1
This accredited part-time IT course will give you the spreadsheet knowledge and skills that you need to help you with future employment.

Duration: 10 weeks, Tuesdays 1.00pm – 3.00pm

What are the qualifications about?
If you are looking to improve your job prospects in an office or administrative setting then Microsoft Excel skills are invaluable. Spreadsheets are also useful in a home environment for tracking your personal finances and recording information. This introductory Microsoft Excel course would suit those who have basic computer skills (e.g. using a keyboard and a mouse) and who want to learn new skills or reinforce prior learning.
Who are they for?
You may have been out of education for a while or are a non-English speaker looking to get on the job ladder. You will improve your employability prospects and your CV with this user-friendly course.
What do I need?
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however it is preferable that you have some previous experience using a keyboard and mouse, and are comfortable working with numbers. Ideally you will be operating at Level 1 Maths or above.
In the case of remote learning (depending on national restrictions), you would also need to have access to a smartphone and one other device on which you have the required Excel software. Prior to the course, you will have a session on how to learn online and how to access the online classroom, to make sure you have all you need before you start.
What does it cover?
You will cover:
- Navigating Excel so that you know where to find everything.
- Using formulas to handle difficult calculations quickly.
- Livening up your work with different fonts, colours and effects.
- Setting up your sheet so that it looks professional on-screen and when printed out.
- Creating charts to present your data.

Completing the Unit in Spreadsheet Skills Level 1 usually takes:

You can build on what you have learnt on this course by taking some of the other IT courses we offer here at Ruskin, such as Word, PowerPoint and internet. This will then mean you can go on to achieve the ITQ for IT Users Award. The content of this award has been carefully designed with employers to ensure its relevant to the real world and meets what employers are looking for.
