Mental Health Matters
Get an introduction to mental health, emotional wellbeing and mental distress, exploring what these ideas mean to different people and professional groups. Look at the meaning and significance of terminology in understanding and supporting our own and other people’s mental health.

Aims and Objectives
To introduce, identify and distinguish between mental health, emotional wellbeing, mental distress and mental illness – improving mental health literacy.
You will be able to:
- understand and explain key mental health terms
- explain how loss of emotional wellbeing can lead to mental distress and a mental illness diagnosis.
Who is the course for?
If you have a personal interest in mental health, work in a support or welfare role or are interested in taking mental health and counselling courses in future, this course is for you.
This course could lead you onto further study at Ruskin in:
- Awareness of Mental Health Problems
- Mental Health First Aid
- Children and Young People’s Mental Health
What will it cost me?
The cost for this course is £25. It is free if you are unemployed or earning less than £17,004 per annum.
