What are the qualifications about?
Get to know various aspects of event management and gain the skills and experience you need to work at or run a festival or event. Oxford Lieder runs a Festival devoted to song for two weeks every October and is now known as one of the best in the world. You will hear from members of the Oxford Lieder team about what it takes to run a festival, talk to performers and work on various tasks to develop your practical skills.
Who are they for?
If you currently volunteer or work in this area and would like to learn more or are interested in a career in Event Management, this course is for you. No previous experience necessary.
What do I need?
You don’t need any academic qualifications for this course.

What will it involve?
You will learn about:
- Marketing – social media, design, writing copy, box office/ticketing, programmes
- Festival organisation – booking artists and their accommodation, timetabling events and rehearsals, backstage and Front of House management
- Artistic planning – planning a concert, producing programmes, understanding how performers prepare for a concert
After the three-day course, you will be invited to organise and run a concert during the afternoon of the opening day of the Festival on 11th October 2019.
There is also the possibility of opportunities for volunteering and paid Festival Assistant roles at future Oxford Lieder events.
How will I learn and be assessed?
You will not be assessed formally on this non-accredited course.

Completing the Event Management course usually takes:
- 3 days full time
This is a three day residential course, running from Tuesday to Thursday.
What would it cost me?
This course is free, subject to eligibility. For those who are not eligible, the cost is £220 (inc lunch and accommodation).
