Do you struggle with Maths on a daily basis?  Do you need help counting your change or helping your children with their Maths homework? Perhaps you wish to change career and your Maths skills are holding you back.


These courses are designed to increase your confidence in Maths reading, giving you more assurance at work or in everyday life.

These weekly sessions are delivered over 14 weeks (with a break at half term) but you can join at any time throughout the year so don’t worry if you have missed the start date. These classes are designed for us to get to know you and assess your Maths skills to support you to move on to a suitable Maths course and qualification.

These courses are accredited by Ruskin College.

The course runs weekly on a Tuesday 10am-1pm. This course is designed specifically to support adults to reinforce and build on their Maths skills. 

The course is tutor led and includes group work, paired work and individual tasks. A diverse range of teaching methods are used to address students varying learning styles. The teaching is supported with a wide range of resources- handouts, presentations, quizzes and online resources.

This course is free for all students as long as you do not have an A*-C in GCSE Mathematics.



Ordinarily you will need to be a citizen of a country within the European Economic Area (EEA) and have been resident in a country within the EEA for 3 years, excluding Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.  However, if you are a refugee or asylum seeker, please get in touch as you may be eligible for funding.


If your household income is less than £30,994 we may be able to provide support with childcare costs with a registered childminder whilst you attend the course.  Please ring 01865 759798 for more information.

This course will support your development of Maths skills which are crucial to furthering your employment opportunities and to progress with further study and/or higher education. 

From this course you have the possibility to progress onto Functional Maths (you will be able to work through the different levels of this qualification until you reach level 2 which is the same level as an A* to C at GCSE.)

Further study could include applying for one of our progression residential courses to get a taste of College life or apply for our Preparing for Employment course if your focus is employment related or our Preparing for Further Study if that is your focus.  This could form part of your pathway to Access to HE by completing our Pre-Access in Skills for Social Care or our L2 Certificate in Writing for a Career in the Arts.

We offer Access to HE in Health Professions, Social Science or Health and Social Care.  Improving your Maths skills will support your application for all of these possible courses.
