Are you worried about checking bills, managing budgets or helping your children with your homework? Want to improve your confidence in Maths? Our classes can focus on the areas you need support with such as addition, subtraction, fractions or percentages.

These 6 day courses are designed to provide a more concentrated learning experience for you in a supportive environment. You will work towards City and Guilds unit qualifications that form part of their Mathematics Skills Qualification.

These courses run in two parts (3 days week one and 3 days week two). The course runs 9am to 5pm. They are designed specifically to support adults to reinforce and build on their Maths skills. 

The course is tutor led and includes group work, paired work and individual tasks. A diverse range of teaching methods are used to address students varying learning styles. The teaching is supported with a wide range of resources- handouts, presentations, quizzes and online resources.

The assessment involves the completion of a workbook/ workbooks at the level you are working at. 

These courses are free for all students as long as you do not have an A*-C in GCSE Mathematics.


Ordinarily you will need to be a citizen of a country within the European Economic Area (EEA) and have been resident in a country within the EEA for 3 years, excluding Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.  However, if you are a refugee or asylum seeker, please get in touch as you may be eligible for funding.

Achieving these qualifications will increase your confidence and motivation, and the skills you gain will be valuable in the workplace.

This course will support your development of Maths skills which are crucial to furthering your employment opportunities and to progress with further study and/or higher education. 

From this course you have the possibility to progress onto Functional Maths (you will be able to work through the different levels of this qualification until you reach level 2 which is the same level as an A* to C at GCSE.)

Further study could include applying for one of our progression residential courses to get a taste of College life or apply for our Preparing for Employment course if your focus is employment related or our Preparing for Further Study if that is your focus.  This could form part of your pathway to Access to HE by completing our Pre-Access in Skills for Social Care or our L2 Certificate in Writing for a Career in the Arts.

We offer Access to HE in Health Professions, Social Science or Health and Social Care.  Improving your Maths Skills will support your application for all of these possible courses.
