Maths Functional Skills Entry level - Level 2 (you will be working at the level that is right for you). These 14 week courses are designed specifically to support adults to achieve a Functional Skills qualification. They are widely recognised by employers as an alternative to GCSE and you will be able to progress through the levels to achieve a level 2 which is the equivalent of an A*to C GCSE.
The Maths Functional Skills are accredited by City and Guilds who are regulated by OFQUAL.
There are three key parts to Maths Functional Skills:
Initial and diagnostic assessment
The initial and diagnostic tests determine your ability and ‘skills level.’ The initial assessment determines your overall skills level and the diagnostic tests help identify areas where you might be struggling slightly and need to focus your learning.
Course resources include practical tasks, written work, video clips and interactive quizzes to help guide you through the course and check your progress.
Practice tests and exam guidance will help you prepare and gain confidence for your final exam.
The course will include completion of sample papers and an exam paper at the level that you are working at (determined by the initial assessment).
This course is free for all students as long as you do not have an A*-C in GCSE Mathematics.
Ordinarily you will need to be a citizen of a country within the European Economic Area (EEA) and have been resident in a country within the EEA for 3 years, excluding Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. However, if you are a refugee or asylum seeker, please get in touch as you may be eligible for funding.
If your household income is less than £30,994 we may be able to provide support with childcare costs with a registered childminder whilst you attend the course. Please ring 01865 759798 for more information.

Achieving these qualifications will increase your confidence and motivation, and the skills you gain will be valuable in the workplace.
This course will support your development of Maths skills which are crucial to furthering your employment opportunities and to progress with further study and/or higher education. You will be able to work through the different levels of this qualification until you reach level 2 which is the same level as an A* to C at GCSE.
Possibilities for progression to further study could include applying for one of our progression residential courses to get a taste of College life or apply for our Preparing for Employment course if your focus is employment related or our Preparing for Further Study if that is your focus. This could form part of your pathway to Access to HE by completing our Pre-Access in Skills for Social Care or our L2 Certificate in Writing for a Career in the Arts.
We offer Access to HE in Health Professions, Social Science or Health and Social Care. Improving your Maths Skills will support your application for all of these possible courses.
