This is an important qualification if you are already working in teaching. It is suitable if you are already in education and want to gain formal recognition of your skills, such as a Diploma or Certificate in Education/PGCE. It will enable you to develop a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer in relation to legislation, equality, diversity, inclusivity and meeting the needs of learners.
Modules for this course include:
Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships
Facilitating learning and development for individuals
Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches
Understanding assessment in education and training
You may be charged course fees depending on your previous level of education but don’t worry; we will help you access financial support if you are entitled to it. For more information visit our Further Education fees and funding page.
There are no formal entry requirements for learners undertaking this qualification. Ideally, you will have a Level 3 qualification in your subject area, or employer endorsement that you are working at an appropriate level. An award in education and training or a Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) qualification is strongly recommended and you should have at least 30 hours of voluntary or paid teacher experience. You will also need to attend an interview and complete a Maths and English assessment at the required level.
On successful completion, you may progress on to a Diploma in Education and Training Level 5. You could train to become an Internal Quality Assurer.
