Courses run throughout the year meaning you can start at any time between September and April. You will complete an initial assessment online to establish which level is appropriate for you. This is an online course, which is supported by optional workshops held at the College and online individual resources will be provided. You can work at your own pace and when you are ready, you will need to come into College to sit the exam. Functional skills qualifications are widely recognised by employers and you will be able to progress through the levels to achieve a level 2 which is alternative A*–C (or grade 9–4 under the new grading system).
You may be charged course fees depending on your previous level of education but don’t worry; we will help you access financial support if you are entitled to it. For more information visit our Further Education fees and funding page.
While there are no entry requirements for these qualifications, it is advised that you have knowledge of computer systems, basic ability to use keyboarding and word processing techniques.
Achieving these qualifications should increase your confidence and motivation, and the skills you gain will be valuable in the workplace or in any further learning.
