Ruskin Tutor Dr Gayle Lonergan was invited to the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna on 23 January to speak on the theme of Religion and Revolution with fellow academic Clemena Antonova.
They discussed the tradition of religious philosophy alongside the political history of the early years of the Bolshevik Party, as both religion and politics responded to the crisis of modernisation in early 20th Century Russia. The talk was part of the Eurasia in Global Dialogue program at the Institute.
Gayle is a Tutor in Applied Social Science. Most of her work has focused on the politics and history of Russia, with a particular focus on the early development of the Bolshevik Party and the formation of the One Party State in the Soviet Union. Her book The Communist Party of the Soviet Union in the Russian Civil War: A Political History will be published at the end of 2020.
