Ruskin’s hugely popular Access to Higher Education programme has notched a record year of achievement for its graduates with 100% pass rate on all courses.
Students on the Social Science, Health & Social Care and Nursing Access to HE courses have seen extraordinary success in securing places at key UK universities. The Ruskin students, who range in age from 19 to 71, will be taking up places at universities including Oxford Brookes, London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Brighton, Birmingham, Reading and Manchester studying on a wide range of courses from Nursing and Environmental Studies through to Counter Terrorism and Computer Science.
Molly, a student on the Access to Social Science course, who has a place at Brookes to study Psychology, said “I did way better than I thought…. I literally feel like there’s no stopping me now! The tutors were so supportive, I wouldn’t have been able to do it without them. Taking an Access course at Ruskin is the best decision I‘ve ever made and I never expected I’d be able to achieve what I have.”
These results reflect the continued growth and success of the College’s offering, which provides a study pathway for adults who initially approach the College with a huge amount to offer but often without traditional qualifications or the confidence and support structure to get a footing into university.
Sally Mercer, Programme Manager for FE at Ruskin and the lead on the Access programme said “We are so proud of all our students who have worked so hard for this. This has been an exceptional year and for them to achieve these results in such difficult circumstances is even more significant. Many have struggled with IT access, family demands, health and financial concerns even before lockdown yet all have found a way to succeed. A wonderful result for everyone concerned.”
