I qualified as a Social Worker in 1990 and then as an Approved Social Worker, having previously worked with young people with learning and complex needs, in residential and educational settings, and young people at risk of offending in the UK and abroad.
As a Social Work Practice Educator I have supported students in a range of settings including problematic substance use, homelessness, domestic abuse, youth offending and adult learning disability, to name a few. The knowledge, experience and understanding gained regularly proves useful in my role as placement coordinator.
I first came across the Ruskin Social Work programme whilst working with Ruskin SW students on placements in the charitable and voluntary sector; this introduced me to the programme and the teaching staff on the Social Work team. I very much enjoyed the approach the team took towards educating future social workers and I admired the Ruskin ethos. I was therefore delighted to be offered the opportunity to join the team.
