Our Students’ Union is made up of student members who act for you, working for your best interests and organising events. It is very active on the political and social scene and you will be able to join in with its many activities. Notable former members of our Union include John Prescott and Jack Ashley.
Last year’s Students’ Union president was Alex Roberts.
“Hey I’m Alex, RSU President. I moved to Ruskin College from Manchester as it provided a supportive adult learning environment. I also joined because I feel passionate about its mission of increasing equality of opportunity to people of all backgrounds, and giving a credible learning platform for left-wing schools of thought which are often pushed out of mainstream academia.
The Students’ Union at Ruskin has a proud history of being one of the world’s most radically active unions, supporting the Miners’ Strike and victims of South African Apartheid in the past. This year Union members have partaken in drives to help resolve the homelessness crisis and support the Extinction Rebellion movement.
Sitting on the Board of Governors I also ensure that our student voice and any concerns are heard right at the top of management. Day to day we work together as a close team to support the wellbeing of students as best we can and put on events to enrich the student experience, culminating each year in the annual Red Ball.”
