Support Us

When the first student came to study at Ruskin College in 1899 they came to study for the same reasons that our students do today. We are passionate about ensuring that talented individuals from any background have the opportunity to come and study here, that the education we offer unlocks the potential in every student, and that the student experience is as rewarding as possible.

Ruskin College would not exist without the generosity and vision of its benefactors. Over the past century, philanthropic gifts have supported our students and provided our buildings. Gifts from alumni and friends are transforming lives through improving Ruskin’s resources and giving the next generation of students the opportunity to study at Ruskin College no matter what their circumstances are.

Mentor a student
Mentors provide valuable real world insights into the job market helping students to make the most of their career journey. The fact that you are already part of our alumni community means you know what it is like to study here and already have a common bond with our current students. Our mentoring scheme aims to match every student who wants to participate to an Alumni Mentor with relevant experience in the student’s career area of interest. The mentoring scheme runs each year from November until the following summer, and you should be prepared to give about an hour per month of your time. Ideally, you will be able to meet your student mentee at least once face-to-face during the scheme. The aim of the programme is to help students prepare to find a job when they leave,  and activities could include reviewing CVs and applications, giving information and advice about their chosen career, helping them to identify potential careers, encouraging them to source work experience and being a general source of support and guidance.

We welcome interest from all alumni – you do not have to have mentored before or reached the ‘top’ of your career to be able to be a mentor and we are also keen to hear from young alumni.

Offer a placement
Engaging with current students by providing them with work experience will enable you to access enthusiastic individuals who can bring fresh ideas, a new approach and a desire to make an immediate contribution to your business.

Guest Lecture
Our students love to hear from our alumni who have excelled in their chosen field, and many of our alumni love to re-visit our College to share their insights and knowledge with current students. If you’d like to give a guest lecture please share your story with us and we will be in touch.
